As the hearings continue for the January 6th fracas that sought to “keep the legitimate President,” we must marvel at how pathetic the Democrats have become at wagging the dog. It is the last gasp at redemption for a party with zero agenda, and nothing accomplished but really kind tweets. This Hail Mary at scaring the voters in the midterms is sadly obvious. Even magpies like MSNBC’s Donny Deutsch admits that the only play left is to “scare the bejesus out of people, because the Democrats have no strategy.”
To the most stalwart, chewy blue, lawn sign toting corporate Democrat, it should be apparent that a shellacking is coming. Frankly, any vote for them or the crunchy red GOP is an exercise in stupidity, but the Democrats are in charge and as Ukraine is flaming out in spectacular fashion, they need a “win.”
It would have been simpler and less costly to gain wins by keeping promises and actually helping American taxpayers. Then, maybe, the largest voting block (independents and undecideds) which are 50% of the electorate might get off their ass and vote. Instead, the Biden Administration chose to ignore the voter again, serve up more bread and circuses and exacerbate Trump’s more toxic policies like saber rattling China and Russia. I have covered here how that has been an economic blunder that we’ll be paying for the next several decades.
Despite Robert DeNiro’s claims that “Biden is doing a good job,” his approval ratings are lower than when George W. Bush left office. I think it’s fair to examine exactly why this administration is failing and ask if more parties and a systemic overhaul aren’t in order.
A quick rundown in this confederacy of simpering blockheads shows that we have: no $15/hr. minimum wage, no student debt relief (not a dime as promised during the campaign), 700,000 deported legal asylum seekers, kids still in cages and zero press access, (Trump barely hit 600,000 deportations in his four years, which was barely half of Obama’s number at the same time), continuing with all the forever wars, replacing Afghanistan for Ukraine, runaway inflation, despite U.S. corporations boasting record profits, 38 million starving Americans, 11 million of which are children under 15, a completely gutted middle class, and zero assistance to people and small businesses wiped out during Covid, increased police funding (including the Capitol Police, a source of these hearings), rampant homelessness and much, much more. Of course, we can always dig up $60 billion to turn Ukrainians into cannon fodder.
Side note, the Biden Administration is already admitting that this war is going to have to be resolved through diplomacy. Gee, ya think? In early February, U.S. Secretary of State, Antony Blinken met with Sergei Lavrov to discuss just that! A deal memo was promised and never came. In fact, it wasn’t even breathing hard. Then came February 24th. Is there going to be a hearing on that screw up?
Are they going to hold hearings on any of these failures? Are they going to hold hearings on the Pentagon failing their audit, blowing through an unaccounted $20 trillion? Are they going to hold hearings on U.S. war crimes under the Biden Administration? Are they going to hold hearings on offshore business holdings, evading $4 trillion in taxable corporate income? Americans are suffering under austerity, mass surveillance, and increased taxes all while oligarchs skate. The big sin of Empire is that it brings its overseas practices home to roost.
The big reveal of these hearings so far is that “Trump is a fascist.” Every U.S. administration since at least 1948 has been a fascist administration. Biden? He’s blue Trump in every conceivable way. The only difference is that you just don’t like the Orange Guy. Sleep tight.
