“Well, go live there then!”
“I’m so glad we don’t do that here!”
“We have to fight for women’s rights in _____!”
Sound familiar? The latest “outrage du jour” in Iran has the entire mainstream media foaming at the mouth about “what to do in Iran!” If you’re unaware, Mahsa Amini died after being arrested by the “morality police” for not wearing a hijab. Suddenly we care about women’s rights in Iran. Never mind that we sold chemical weapons to Saddam Hussein in the 80s where plenty of women were killed during his eight-year war with Iran. It’s also good to point out that the U.S. also sold weapons to Iran, to fund the Contras in Nicaragua. This is pesky since Iran was supposed to be our enemy and Iraq our ally. I’m sure the holidays were a little awkward.
In Afghanistan, after the U.S. exit, we keep imposing sanctions, starving women and children, among the many. In Yemen, our Saudi led/U.S. backed genocide has killed over half a million people so far. Pretty sure women were there too. Ukraine, Gaza, the West Bank, Syria, Libya, Bolivia in 2019, and anywhere the U.S. embraces with its slimy tentacles is subject to violations of women’s rights. Here’s a little secret, we don’t care…
The new “movement” in Iran smacks of the same CIA color revolutions as seen most recently in Taiwan. Moreover, this is the same tactic used in Iran in 1953, in which we overthrew the democratically elected Mohammad Mosaddegh. His crime? Nationalizing Iranian oil and paying his people a living wage. We’re supporting the current Haitian upheaval for “human rights,” when the reality is we want Levi’s to have cheap labor at 31 cents an hour. The U.S. does this all over the world and has it down to a science. The sad, frustrating thing is that the American people buy into it every goddamned time.
What the good people in the U.S. fail to realize is that these are the death rattles of a dying Empire. We bathe our greed and avarice in the fog of righteousness, thinking that we’re the good guys and the bad guys have to be taken out. Meanwhile, our expansion is done at the price of ordinary Americans.
All this does is serve as a distraction from the fact that the U.S. is the largest penal colony on earth, in both per capita and actual numbers. We have more people in prison than China. We have more homeless people now, than in any time since Reagan started the whole mess in the mid 80s. We’ve gutted any semblance of a middle class and we have 40 million people starving. On average, police murder roughly 2,000 black and brown people for each of the last twenty years. So far seven cops have been convicted. Do the math: the U.S. could not give two shits about human rights. Never has, never will and history bears this out.
Smedley D. Butler, in War is a Racket, points out the profits manufacturers enjoyed before and after WWI. The average increase was around 1,500%. This population has been lied into every war since at least the Spanish American War and I don’t have to go back that far! The last twenty plus years has seen every war sold to us on lies. Bush, Obama, Trump and now, Biden have the same pitch, “U.S. good, everyone bad!” and we swallow it faster than they can dish it.
We’re about to head into WWIII because of our “values.” Ask yourself this, does a country who cheats taxpayers for the benefit of the richest 1,000 people actually give a shit about values? Rome is burning and we don’t even have a Nero.
