The Biden student loan debt relief came and not only was it a slap in the face, it elicited gales of derision and scorn. The reliable, right wing financial bros complained about people “not paying their debts,” while many of the same enjoyed the forgiveness of PPP loans and other freebies. Over 75% of those loans did not go to payrolls. A glaring example is the airline industry, taking in $50 billion of taxpayer money, promising not to layoff workers and then canned 90,000 people… and we wonder why the planes haven’t been running on time? Shouldn’t there have been a provision to arrest these violators? Oh yeah, they own us.
Of course, the real left in this country just rolled its collective eyes, mouths agape in the disbelief that anyone bought Biden’s campaign bullshit in the first place. Despite his promise to evaporate student loan debt, this is the very same Joe Biden who crafted legislation to make student loans exempt from bankruptcy. I mean, school was free when I went, but we must keep the latest scam going, which is student loans. ‘Murica.
I mentioned the slap in the face…the average student debt is $100,000. A $10,000, measly, means tested break is a joke. Only those making under $125,000/year ($250,000/family) qualify. Pell Grant recipients get $20,000 forgiven. I guess because you have to be so poor to get a Pell Grant, Biden felt generous for just a second.
So, we know the Democrats are lying, sniveling assholes. Like Republicans, they’re bought off and will have nothing more to do this fall but to beg for votes as they have delivered on absolutely nothing but more inflation, the threat of world war, and maintaining their pro wrestler-like role of the face to the right wing heel. However, the Republicans are a unique form of vermin in this tale of two dipshits. The right wingers angry about this have zero issue (as do Dems) with trillions given to the top 1,000 richest people and corporations on behalf of “keeping us safe from COVID.”
The overzealous property first crowd bellow sincerely about the “freeloaders” while being absolutely ok with the above mentioned thievery. Being beneficiaries, they overlook our war budget, bloated subsidies, criminal credit lines and all the rest given to the richest few. Meanwhile, we have homeless in every major city, 38 million starving Americans (11 million kids) and the lowest wages paid in five decades. That $60 billion we gave to Ukraine would solve the homeless problem in the U.S. Period.
When I say repeatedly that these people are not your friends, it’s because we mean nothing to them. They’re not afraid of losing their jobs because somehow we got it in our head that we won’t get an agenda passed if “we’re not nice to these people.”
A joke Ralph Nader makes is that Nixon was the last New Deal president. Those who don’t know, chuckle but it’s true. He wasn’t some kindly, benevolent figure set on doing good. Actually, he was an amoral son of a bitch. What he did have was an actual left-wing opposition and that scared the crap out of him. Nader alone helped to craft 26 pieces of legislation, many of which were turned into law…he wasn’t even in Congress. However, because Nixon was getting it on all sides, he signed Title 9, the Cancer Act, the Clean Water Act, OSHA, EPA, the Emergency Employment Act, increased Social Security benefits, the HMO Act and a price and wage freeze. That last part was for 90 days and lasted a year. Anyone violating that would be arrested as to curb inflation. Sure, he was Nixon but there was real protest and that got his attention. That is how stupid the “lesser of two evils” is: back in the day, an evil guy did stuff as opposed to today.
If the debacle of the Biden administration should say anything, it’s that we’re wholly owned by a d(owner) class that is walling off their compounds. Alas, the pitchforks aren’t coming sadly, they’re not even breathing hard.
